I'm actually on the floor on my mat, having just finished my stretching exercises. I can't describe the importance of it in my life. First of all let me explain that it is a beginners yoga that takes about 20 minutes. I prefer to call it stretching, as that is the benefits I recieve from it-not the eastern religious side of it. I was broadsided by another vehicle a little over two years ago and suffered from double whip lash. Two years in physical therapy has opened my eyes to not only the benefits of stretching and exercise, but to the importance of strentening core muscles.
The stretching keeps me limber, is extremely relaxing, and is what helps with any pain and stiffness. I try and do this every morning before I go on my brisk walk. And any time tension causes my back and neck to lock up.
It is also great for anemia, as it helps circulate the oxygen to the muscles, releasing the lactic acid that builds up due to the lack of oxygen which accompanies anemia.
Happy stretching!
